At Flourish Dyslexia, we provide Learner Profile Assessments for children and young people aged 7-18 across Greater Manchester.

 

These gentle, cognitive-based assessments explore how your child thinks, learns, remembers and processes information, giving you a clear picture of their learning profile and practical strategies to support them at home and in school.

What Is a Learner Profile Assessment?

​A Learner Profile Assessment is a non-diagnostic assessment that provides a detailed overview of your child’s cognitive strengths and learning needs.

​​

This assessment is ideal if you are:

  • Not ready for or do not yet meet the criteria for, a full diagnostic assessment

  • Wanting clarity around memory, attention or processing skills

  • Looking for practical strategies before pursuing further referrals

Skills Explored in a Learner Profile Assessment

​Each learner profile is tailored to your child’s needs, but areas we may explore include:

​

  • Verbal and visual reasoning (how your child understands and solves problems)

  • Working memory and recall (holding and using information)

  • Processing speed (how quickly information is taken in and used)

  • Phonological skills linked to reading and spelling

  • Handwriting fluency and written expression

  • Optional language screening if concerns are raised
     

We always focus on what is relevant and meaningful for your child, no unnecessary testing.

Assessment Process

Before the Assessment

  • Parents complete a background questionnaire.

  • Schools are invited to complete a background questionanaire.

  • This helps us understand your child’s history, strengths, difficulties  and learning environment.

During the Assessment

  • The session takes place in our home office or your home if suitable.

  • Assessments usually last around 2 hours, with breaks whenever needed.

  • Everything moves at your child’s pace to keep the process relaxed and supportive.

After the Assessment

  • A clear written Learner Profile Report

  • Identification of strengths and areas for development

  • Practical recommendations for school and home, including classroom strategies​
